Since 2006, the Institute of Materials Science and Technology is one of the 10 units allowed by the Ministry of Education and Training to organize a pilot training program of the Materials Science & Engineering Program of the University of Illinois. Materials Science is an interdisciplinary science that studies the relationships between composition, structure, fabrication technologies, and the properties of materials. The sciences involved in research are mainly physics, chemistry, and mathematics. Normally, the object of study is material in solid state, followed by liquid and gaseous form. Properties to be studied are structural, electrical, magnetic, thermal, optical, mechanical, or combination of those properties for the purpose of creating materials to satisfy engineering needs.
