The Institute’s annual enrollment scale is over 200 undergraduate students. Currently, the Institute is implementing a broad university training program: “Materials Engineering”. Since 2006, the Institute of Materials Science and Technology is one of the 10 units allowed by the Ministry of Education and Training to organize a pilot training program of the Materials Science & Engineering Program of the University of Illinois. (UIUC), USA, in English on credit.
Materials Science is an interdisciplinary science that studies the relationships between composition, structure, fabrication technologies, and the properties of materials. The sciences involved in research are mainly physics, chemistry, and mathematics. Normally, the object of study is material in solid state, followed by liquid and gaseous form. Properties to be studied are structural, electrical, magnetic, thermal, optical, mechanical, or combination of those properties for the purpose of creating materials to satisfy engineering needs.
The Institute of Materials Science and Engineering always attaches great importance to international cooperation and corporate cooperation to improve the quality of teaching, research and technology transfer activities.
The Institute of Materials Science and Engineering has cooperative relations with many prestigious universities and research institutes in the world. Through cooperation, the Institute’s students have the opportunity to study and research at partner schools through student exchange scholarships, as well as research cooperation projects. In Vietnam, Materials Science is also a discipline taught at many institutions. When students participate in this discipline, they will be trained in the knowledge of mathematics, physics, science and technology in the fields of materials from basic to advanced. In particular, students will have access to the theory of nano electronic materials. At the same time, participating in the field of study, students will also be equipped with important knowledge bases on a variety of other new materials such as composites, nano, special alloys, lasers, optical fiber ( optoelectronic materials), … Most, students have access to important materials, which are the foundation of a turning point in modern technology and engineering.
